Candidate Statement:

I am Kandie Smith and I am running for City Council in District 1 in Greenville, NC.  My desire to run for this office is based on my concerns regarding the youth, families, and area neighborhoods.

The chance to make a difference presents both challenge and opportunity.  As our nation suffers many issues relating to our economy, healthcare, and youth violence, I am mindful of the importance of taking the necessary steps to provoke positive actions and solutions at the local level.

I am hopeful that my energy and willingness to dedicate myself to servicing the citizens within my District will be the building blocks for success at the City Council level.  However, I also realize that the magnitude of this work can not be done alone.  As the ancient African proverb states, "It takes a village to raise a child," -- I also believe that it takes each of our citizens to build a community that is filled with strength, unity, and compassion towards all.
