| Candidate Statement:
For the last 11 years, I've had the privilege to serve the people of Johnston County on their Board of Education. Accountability to the customers of the Johnston County School System has been and will continue to be my top priority. The customers consisting of taxpayers, parents, students, educators and employees will have input in the development of educational policies that promote academic excellence as the Johnston County School System enters the 21st century. As stakeholders, the customer's input will assist in developing cost-effective measures which will ensure that the portion of county tax dollars allocated for education are adequate enough to make possible the continuous development of a school system that can be and should be second to none. In the economical times that live, it is imperative that our Board of Education spend our money wisely. It is our responsibility to provide a sound, basic, quality education to all Johnston County Schools students.
As a board member, I've worked hard to see that transparency occurs in order to better inform our citizens. In my opinion, it is important that as much information as possible be provided to our taxpayers and parents about how decisions are made regarding our school system. I'm pleased that with the better use of the district's website and the free television cable channel available, the business of the Board of Education is more open and available than ever before to our citizens. With the monthly postings of the board of education meetings, making minutes and agendas available, hosting radio broadcast and podcast featuring district leadership discussing programs and issues, the website has increased public participation. The current county school budget, along with the upcoming budget request found on the district's website are two more examples of attempting to better inform our citizens.
