Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

I am a 1990 graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Criminal Justice. I was a Probation/Parole officer for 12 years prior to being elected clerk. I have served the people of Lenoir County as Clerk of Superior Court for the past 7 1/2 years.

I am a member of the Noon Rotary Club, Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce, Criminal Justice Partnership Board, Moss Hill PTA, and South Lenoir High School PTA.

I am married to John, a Sgt. With Kinston Department of Public Safety, we have four children, Dusk, Smith, Landon, and Johnna, and attend Sandy Bottom Baptist Church.

We have made a number of positive changes in the Clerk's office during the past 7 1/2 years.

Passport process has been reinstated to better serve the citizens of Lenoir County and surrounding counties.

We acquired additional space, which allowed us to have an Estates Division, a hearing room, and a civil file room.

AOC implemented several new computer programs; the staff is very capable of using them. AOC offers training through numerous forms: attending class at the Raleigh central office, in-house by Court Services staff, classes at the Assistant/Deputy Clerk's Conference, or the new web based training.  The web based training has allowed us to train more people with no travel time.  This allows for more work time since travel is not necessary. The staff is always available and well trained to do more than one job. Serving the public to the best of our ability has always been a number one priority with our office. We strive to serve all customers to the best of our ability.

My open door policy is available to all staff members and allows me to meet and help many of the citizens of Lenoir County.

I am thankful for our staff who works hard to get the job done in an efficient and professional manner. The many calls, cards, and personal comments I have received from the public attest to the fine job they are doing for the citizens. When we have a problem it is addressed and corrected as quickly as possible. However, things are often out of our control and we have to direct citizens to other departments or agencies. We have a good working relationship with the Judges, Attorneys, Law Enforcement Officers, as well as others that are frequent our office daily. We are here to serve you.
