Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

BA degree in Social Studies from Gardner-Webb University (1973)
MA degree in School Administration from UNC-Charlotte (1975)
MA degree in Guidance & Counseling from Western Carolina University (1983)

I have been in education for 37 years. The first 8 years were spent as a teacher and school administrator in the Kings Mountain School System in Kings Mountain, North Carolina.

The remaining 29 years has been in the Macon County School System as a teacher/counselor, elementary school principal and the past 21 years as principal of Franklin High School. I retired from education in June 2010.

Prior to entering Gardner-Webb College (1969), I served in the US Army and I am a Vietnam Veteran with 2 Purple Hearts.

Candidate Statement:

After serving 37 years in the educational profession, I would like to continue serving my community and fellow educators. I firmly believe that education is a must for civility and of utmost importance for a 21st Century economy.

My logo is "Experience Counts!" I understand the importance of working as a team, making the commitment for continuous growth and improvement, developing "strategic priorities" that coincide with our state adopted goals. I will commit the time for the betterment of our profession and our educational system so our youth can prosper in the 21st Century.
