Candidate Biography (submitted by campaign):
Charlie Dannelly represents North Carolina Senate District 38 which includes a portion of Mecklenburg County. He currently serves as Deputy President Pro Tempore of the Senate and has held this position since January 2003.
Born in Bishopville, South Carolina, Senator Dannelly attended elementary school there. He graduated high school from Mather Academy in Camden, SC. He attended Howard University. After serving in the Korean War, he graduated from Johnson C. Smith University where he received his B.A. Degree. He also attended the University of NC at Chapel Hill where he received his Masters of Education and Administration.
Senator Dannelly is committed to serving the best interests of the constituents of his district and the citizens of North Carolina. He is an advocate for children, the elderly, the homeless, the poor, the mentally and physically disabled, education, and economic development. His main goal in becoming an elected official was to be a voice for those whose voice is sometimes overlooked or not heard.
Senator Dannelly is currently chairman of the Senate Ways & Means Committee. His other assignments include the following: Appropriations on Health Services, Education/Public Instruction, Finance, Health Care, Judiciary II, Mental Health/Youth Services. He is Vice Chairman of the Appropriations/Base Budget Committee.
Although Senator Dannelly spends much of his time in Raleigh, he still finds time to devote to various boards, commissions and committees in his community.
Prior to becoming a legislator, Senator Dannelly was a Charlotte City Council member for twelve years. He has received numerous honors and awards over the years.
Senator Dannelly is married to the former Rose Rhodes and they have one adult son. They are members of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.

I enjoy serving citizens of Senate District 38, Mecklenburg County, and our wonderful state, North Carolina. My experience at that state level provides me advantages to serve my constituents' concerns more effectively.
