Home County:

Mecklenburg

Length of Residence in NC:

46 years

Candidate Biography (submitted by campaign):

Public Service:

Ruth believes passionately in community service.  Her efforts are volunteer only and she has never received payment for her time and effort in the Board positions she has held.  Ruth has served on over 20 boards and community committees in the Charlotte area including the YMCA, National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women, Little Sugar Creek Greenway, Catawba Lands Conservancy and Children's Theater.

Leadership:

  • Ruth has proven leadership abilities both in her public and private life
  • She is an avid volunteer for a diverse range of community projects
  • She is our State House Representative
  • She has been a Board Member for many different non-profit organizations
  • She is an active and involved mom

Faith:

Ruth has a firm foundation based on a strong belief in God.  She also has faith in North Carolina's future.

Family:

Ruth has 4 children; one adopted from Chile, and another through foster care.  Her family has always been important to her.  Not only for what they represent but also as a symbol of what North Carolina can be.  North Carolina should not be a state families flee because of high taxes, high home prices, and high cost of education.

Candidate Statement:

I envision:

  • a state where workers want to stay because they have a little more money in their pockets and a little more security in their lives.
  • a state where businesses want to grow because they know that tomorrow's employees are being well educated today.
  • a state where people want to live because the air is clean and recreational opportunities abound.
  • a state where racial distrust and inequities have been overcome.
  • a state that is simply America's best.
