Candidate Statement:

The office of Clerk has evolved into a job that requires the Clerk to act on legal matters.  At one time Clerks primarily performed a wide range of record keeping, information management and financial management functions in the judicial system.  Over time the legislature has increased the responsibilities and duties of this Office but the legal requirements set out for this position have not caught up to the functions now designated to the Office.

As the only attorney running for clerk of Court in New Hanover County I will provide the Citizens with the degree of competency and professionalism that they would expect of someone serving in this capacity. I enjoy public service and am looking forward to the daily interaction with the public that being the Clerk of Court would afford.  I have a reputation for being a seasoned trial attorney who treats people reasonably and with respect for the individual.

In addition to my legal skills I have successfully written numerous grants resulting in well over 2 million dollars of funding over the last 15 years.  As a national speaker I have interacted with many people who work within the justice system and have established a wide network of resources. In a time of limited budgets and hiring freezes I will bring the ability to think outside the box to this position. I would like to take on the challenge that comes with entering an elected office at a time of historic change in how the courts do business.

I ask for your support and your vote in this falls election.
