Candidate Biography (submitted by campaign):

I was born Patricia Ellen Britt on December 29, 1939, in Asheboro, Randolph County, NC, to Margaret Cagle Britt and Hubert Grady Britt. I attended Park Street School (now Donna Lee Loflin School), Fayettevillle Street School, and graduated from Asheboro High School. I have always lived in North Carolina, and all but four years in Randolph County.

My employment has always involved public contact. I worked at Wachovia Bank, North Carolina National Bank ( now Bank of America), High Point Auto Auction, and Greensboro Auto Auction. From 1992 until 2006, I was a Deputy Clerk of Superior Court in the Estates Division in Randolph County. Since January, 2007, I have served the citizens of District 70, Randolph County, as their State Representative in the North Carolina House.

I have two children and three grandchildren.

I am a Quaker and am a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting where I serve on the Nominating Committee and the Social Concerns Committee. I also teach Sunday School.

Candidate Statement:

As a citizen of North Carolina and a State Representative, I am very concerned about the way our taxpayers' money is being spent. We need to cut spending and appropriate funds according to need.

I want to continue to be the voice of District 70, listening and responding to their needs. I feel that I have been there for them and have helped solve many constituent's problems. I am thankful for the support and trust that has been given me these past two years.

I appreciate the Speaker of the House assigning me to committees that have helped me better understand issues. Education, Mental Health Reform, Juvenile Justice, Justice and Public Safety Appropriations, Local Government I, Judiciary II, Drop out Prevention and Graduate Retention Commission are some of the committees I have been fortunate to have been assigned. Although I am not a member of the Mental Health Oversight Committee, I have attended many of their meetings because of my concern.

We have many very serious issues that need to be addressed when the General Assembly reconvenes.  I hope to be re-elected to be able to help find solutions to these problems. Some of the most important issues are:  the economy, education, illegal immigration, affordable health insurance, mental health reform, highways and bridges, and gang activity. We must find ways to help our citizens to have the means to be able to get to their jobs and provide for their families. With gas and food costs as they are now, families are having a very difficult time. We must find solutions and we need input from our constituents. We need government OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND, ESPECIALLY, FOR THE PEOPLE. I ask for your support to serve again.

Thank you for this opportunity to voice my position.
