| Candidate Statement:
Hi, I’m Curtis Blackwood. I was elected to the N.C. House in District 73 in 2002 and District 68 in 2004 and 2006. I am asking for the privilege of representing and serving you again in 2008. I have been a pro family conservative Republican believing in less government, lower taxes, free enterprise, property rights and individual responsibility. My educational background, experience as a teacher, principal and businessman have served me well in the committees in which I serve you.
My goals improve with seniority and a Republican majority in the Legislature and legislation should be for the good of the people and not special interest groups. Some proposed legislation sounds good but has unintended consequences and part of my legislative role is to consider the ramifications when I vote. Unfortunately, in voting against a bad budget, I may be charged with voting against many things I truly support, all because they are included in a single budget vote. I support the marriage amendment, lifting the cap on charter schools, promoting school choice, and protection of children in Jessica’s Law. I have a bill in drafting to reserve money for roads.
