| NC Senate (District 16 - Wake) |
|
Candidate Biography (submitted by campaign):
I am 58 years old, have lived in Raleigh all of my life and am a product of the Wake County Public Schools and NC State University. I have been married to my wife Susan for 30 years and have two daughters, Mary Carroll, who is a ninth grade Environmental Sciences Teacher at Garinger High School in Charlotte and Catherine who is working on her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at UNC-Chapel Hill.
I am a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church where I have taught Sunday School many years and am currently serving as a Stephen Leader. I am President of Cardinal International Trucks where I am proud to employ 50 of the best employees that a company could ask for. I am a past President of the Raleigh Jaycees and have served on the Boards of: Drug Action of Wake County, the Boys and Girls Club, Peace College, the Lacy PTA, the Daniels PTA, the Broughton PTA, Project Enlightenment, the YMCA, the North Carolina Railroad, and First Citizens Bank.
From Lacy to Daniels to Broughton, I was the "technology guy" that was put in charge of raising money for the schools. At Lacy, we raised over $100,000 and put public and private dollars together to build the first computer lab in an elementary school in Wake County. At Broughton, I co-chaired "Challenge 2000" to put public and private dollars together to install a school wide computer network of over 200 computers. My passion is the YMCA where I have helped raise several million dollars to help people who need it. I have received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from Governor Jim Hunt and was Tarheel of the Week on September 16, 2007.
I want to be your Senator because I care. Please vote for me.

| Candidate Statement:
The reason that I want to be a N C Senator is because I care about our State and its people. It concerns me that a State as prosperous and popular as ours is has needs that remain unmet. As an operator of a small business, we have to constantly look for ways to stretch dollars and eliminate waste.
I have heard lots of rhetoric and promises from lots of candidates and the idea of frugality and fiscal responsibility are not mentioned. They all promise more, but don't say where the money is coming from. This doesn't make sense to me. And raising taxes in an area that is already high is a detriment to new industry. In our businesses and homes, if we want something new or extra, we have to give up something, or work harder. I feel that we are taxed enough if we spend smarter and work on plugging the money leaks.
Wake County has received many accolades for being the "Best Place to (you pick it)" for many years. We are faced with rapid growth that we need to manage well if we are to maintain the lifestyle that we are comfortably spoiled with.
Transportation, education, infrastructure, water, jobs, taxes, crime -- all areas that need to be expertly managed to make sure that our future is as bright as we want it to be for ourselves and our children.
I have worked in the public schools, Wake Tech, and the YMCA to try to help others and I have shared many successes with others because we listened and learned. I would like the same opportunity in the NC Senate.
Please vote for John M. Alexander, Jr. on or before November 4, 2008 and visit my website at www.alexanderncsenate.com to find out more.
Thank you.
