| Candidate Statement:
Goals:
Fiscal Responsibility: US Constitution says "promote" the general welfare; not "provide" the general welfare!
Lower taxes: when taxes get too high, North Carolina becomes less competitive in southeastern and national markets and the United States becomes less competitive in world markets.
Education: Basically to improve performance by reducing drop out rates; providing needed funding for on-line education to keep students' interest as well as to provide additional education options; providing needed funding for a broader vocational education path to graduation; expanding basic finance (economics) courses; and providing "merit" pay to motivate the best teachers to stay in the profession.
Transportation: Redirect "equity formula" funding to congested urban areas; cease transfers from the Highway Trust Fund to the General Fund; provide gap funding for urgently needed urban area highway improvements.
Environment: Protect our rivers and streams and coastal waters by limiting runoff from agricultural and newreal estate developments. As a developer, I know this can be done. Also we should not allow close to shoreline drag net commercial fishing activities.
Energy: Promote nuclear energy as the cleanest and most environmentally friendly source of energy. Also promote a change in national regulations to allow recycling of nuclear material.
Ethics Reform: Prohibit legislator involvement in any non profit seeking tax payer funding; prohibiting unlimited donations to political parties; identification of all donors giving to political parties or 527's and have them identified by legislators if they receive party or 527 donations.
