Candidate Biography (submitted by campaign):
For 31 years I have lived and worked in Apex, raising a family, teaching at a local church, helping thousands of families negotiate the paperwork in order to purchase or refinance a home (about 4,000 closings), plan and settle estates and solve problems, while representing my neighbors in the legislature, the courts and at city hall.
I am married to Dottie Mills Stam, Music Director of Apex Baptist Church. We have two children Nathan and Jana. Nathan is a graduate of NC State and Southeastern Seminary and is Minister of Children at Apex Baptist Church. He and wife Kristi have two sons, Aidan and Gavin. Jana is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. She and husband Jimmy Estes live in Apex with their son, William and are expecting another soon.

| Candidate Statement:
If elected I will carefully read thousands of bills and will support those which promote: clean water through regional cooperation; more freedom, less government; empower parents to ensure quality schooling for their children; prolife protection for mothers and children; fairness to state employees; traffic solutions; protection for your property from condemnation abuse; stop illegal immigration.
I will fight the wasteful spending of this session's General Assembly, including hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies to out-of-state corporations. A 9.7% increase in spending last year for 2007-2008, following years of similar increases, is not sustainable.
The General Assembly has failed to address the State Marriage Amendment for the last 4 years. This bill was signed by a majority of House members and a discharge petition was signed by a majority of Senators. In 2008 we must decide whether North Carolina will allow polygamy and same-sex marriage? The issue will inevitably come to our courts as people move here from Massachusetts.
The Assembly has not completed action on permanent protection of property from condemnation abuse. 96 sponsors joined my bill for a constitutional amendment to establish this protection (HB 878). So far the Senate has failed to even consider it.
