Candidate Statement:

The Citizens of Wake County elected me to the board of County Commissioners in 2006, due to my willingness to be accessible, demonstrate good leadership and be the voice for all citizens.

I am running for re-election and need your support. Everyday, my role as your County Commissioner impacts your quality of life. The policy decisions made by the Wake County Board of Commissioners affect your educational experience, job opportunities, and more importantly where you live, play and raise your family.

During my 4 years tenure, I have demonstrated good fiscal leadership as the board's Vice Chair and Acting Chair. As my record shows I am willing to tackle controversial issues to better serve my constituencies.

Because of my dedication and work ethic, some citizens have dubbed me the "hardest working County Commissioner and the People's County Commissioner." This is an honor I humbly take very seriously. I believe the citizens of Wake County are my boss and I am accountable to you!

My accomplishments include:

  • Approved a fiscal balanced budget each year
  • Advocated for quality educations for all children and adults, who attends Wake Tech. Community College
  • Advocated tirelessly for workforce housing
  • Provided front line leadership in saving our 20 libraries/saved librarians' jobs
  • Advocated and secured a fire station in Garner's ETJ area
  • Advocated for the homeless, human services, fire/EMS and the sheriff department.
  • Advocated for Soil/Water Conservation, Open Space and ensuring Economic Development throughout Wake County.

Once re-elected, I will continue to uphold the guiding principals of my office and seek alternative revenue resources to maintain our core county services (Education, Human Services, Public Safety, Libraries, Economic Development and Open Space).

I ask for your support and vote on Nov. 2nd.
