Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

Jack Nichols and his wife Carol Spruill have lived in Wake County since 1978. Their sons attended Wake Public Schools: Hunter, Ligon and Enloe. He served on the Wake County Commission in the early 90s, where he was instrumental in making Wake County one of the best places to live in the Country. Jack has been especially involved with Boy Scouts; Jack and both of his sons are Eagle Scouts and Jack continues to teach the Boy Scout ideals of duty and honor.

Jack and his wife Carol are involved with numerous organizations in Wake County. Jack has served on the boards of Interact, the Women's Center, the Montessori School of Raleigh and Wake Education Partnership and was a co-founder of Wake County Smart Start.

Candidate Statement:

Jack is running for the Wake County Board of Commissioners to bring "Leadership that Works" back to County Government. Wake County earned rankings as one of the best places to live year after year because its leadership was focused on pragmatic solutions. Now the Commissioners and the School Board lack direction; are locked in partisan fights and have put our reputation in jeopardy.

During these difficult economic times, the Board of Commissioners must be focused on creating jobs and encouraging economic development. Jack knows that part of job creation is excellent schools and great infrastructure. In today's economy, towns and cities compete against each other for new businesses. To compete for jobs, Jack believes that the leadership of this county must stop competing against itself, and look past ideology and partisan labels and focus on pragmatic solutions.
