Candidate Biography (submitted by campaign):

I grew up in Forsyth County where I was born in 1950, the oldest of seven children.  My family may not have had much money, but we had what we needed and we were blessed with great parents.  I worked my way through college while supporting my family, earning both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Engineering Degree from NC State University.

I’m married to Patricia Carson Brewer, and we have three boys.  Pat spent 22 years working as a teacher and curriculum coordinator in the public schools and is currently Director of Brewer Testing Services. We live in East Bend where I have resided since 1984.

I am a registered Professional Engineer, and have just retired from Reynolds American. I also farm and manage a small business.  I have worked in many management, engineering and research and development positions.  I have been a volunteer firefighter for 25 years, and have served on the Board of Directors of the East Bend Volunteer Fire Department as Secretary for many years.  I am also Secretary of the Copeland Masonic Lodge.  I am a Christian and a member of Richmond Hill Baptist Church.

I enjoy flying airplanes and helicopters, teaching Sunday school, tutoring Algebra, and have volunteered on several United Way committees.  I have almost completed construction of a two crew experimental category helicopter.

I am East Bend's GOP Precinct Chairman and have represented Yadkin County for several years at the State Convention.  I have obtained local and state funding for smoke detector distribution programs and was part of a very successful effort to improve our fire rating to drastically lower insurance costs in our fire district.  No department in NC had a better rating using only volunteer firefighters and without the advantage of a district wide hydrant system.

Candidate Statement:

I realize that we are facing some tough times, with the loss of jobs, and the burdens of taxes, increasing costs for food, medicine, gas, fertilizer, etc.

I believe that I can be a very effective leader, who will bring honesty, sincerity, constant representation, and help return us to the values this great county was founded upon.

Being retired, I can apply myself to being your Representative without undue attention elsewhere.  I can put my lifelong experiences, diverse skills and determination to use addressing the problems we face.  I know that with God’s help, all things are possible.

I will:

Actively represent the people of the 92nd North Carolina House District in an honest, determined and diligent manner

Uphold the values upon which this great land was founded

Deliver value from every dollar collected

Preserve the natural beauty of our county

Recruit other people’s ideas and make informed decisions

Deliver Representation that is:
Honest - no bribes, no stealing, no lies...
Constant - not just at election time...
Diligent - hard working, make it happen attitude...
Careful - Measure twice and cut once
Mindful - Remember
Who I represent
Whose money we are spending
Whose lives we are affecting and
The values upon which this Nation was founded

I realize that taxes and kudzu are a lot alike: Both…
Are widespread due to governmental persuasions
Can be useful and serve the intended purpose
Need constant attention and can be hard to control
Can grow quickly and creep into every crevice
Can be so easily wasted

As an engineer, I have experience in finding solutions to even the most difficult problems.

I want to represent the citizens of the 92nd district to ensure you have a:
Hard working
Honest
Knowledgeable
Responsible
Diligent leader in Raleigh
I ask you for your vote.
