| Candidate Statement:
I am running for State Treasurer to help restore some common sense to the process of government. When politicians put politics first and sound financial decisions second, both our state and our citizens are at risk. It is time for this to stop.
My record has been built in the business community, and has been one of service to my home town and to our state.
Leadership with vision and political courage is necessary to grow our economy, and provide opportunities for our people. Our next Treasurer must be a strong chief financial executive, with extensive practical business experience and an in-depth knowledge of our state.
I will lead the Council of State in implementing a long term plan to expand the roads, utilities, and schools we need to grow businesses and create jobs. You can trust me to meet the responsibility of managing the pensions of our government employees and teachers, and to ensure that their retirement is safe. I will hold the legislative and executive branches of government accountable for spending and debt, and will work to keep our taxes down.
I bring to this office nearly three decades of business experience in North Carolina -- creating jobs, making a payroll, managing budgets, employing capital, negotiating healthcare, and most important, taking care of employees and customers.
This is the real world experience we need in Raleigh. My leadership in business, government, and community service demonstrates the judgment needed to determine the best policies, and the courage to ensure our long term interests supersede political expedience.
While we face new challenges, we must remember that the quality of tomorrow, for my children and yours, will be determined by the decisions we make today. I hope you will join me in building a brighter future for the great state of North Carolina.
