Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

Legal  Experience :

Appellate Section, N.C. Attorney General's Office 1999-present; Revenue Section, N.C. Attorney General's Office 1997-1999; Assistant District Attorney, Pitt County 1995-1997.

Candidate Statement:

I offer three proven assets to the Court of Appeals: experience, balance, and fairness.

Experience:  My practice of law, all day, every day for over 11 years has been before the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court. I have advocated in hundreds of matters before the Court of Appeals -- six times more than all the other candidates combined. The Court of Appeals is a heavily-burdened Court that handled 2400 matters from across the State last year alone. I understand the serious demands of the job; I deeply respect the commitment of the judges who serve on the Court of Appeals and it would be my highest honor to serve beside them. My record before the Court proves that I will be a productive and efficient Court of Appeals judge from the first day forward.

Balance: Of the 15 judges now serving on the Court of Appeals, only one judge has a victim-oriented background. My background as the state's lead appellate attorney regarding crimes against children will deepen, enrich, and balance the composition of the Court.

Fairness: As an experienced appellate advocate, I know the importance of appearing before judges who will be fair and impartial. Every advocate and every party to an action before the Court of Appeals deserves to know that their case will be heard on its merits and not with an eye toward a personal or political agenda. I will be fair. My reputation among my colleagues and opposing counsel supports this pledge.

North Carolina could not elect a more experienced, diligent, and fair Court of Appeals judge than I will be.
