Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

My wife of 35 years and I reside in Weddington in Union County, where we raised our three sons.  In 1973, graduated from Davidson College, cum laude, and in 1976 received law degree from UNC.

From 1976 to 1994, I practiced law in Monroe, until elected as Superior Court Judge in 1994.  In 2002, I was elected to the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

Other activities include:  Eagle Scout, 1965; Jaycee of the Year, Monroe, 1979; Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tempore, Town of Weddington 1985-1994; Union County Attorney 1991-1994;  Chair North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission 2004-2008; and Rotary Club of Raleigh 2003-2010.  We attend First Baptist Church of Weddington.

Candidate Statement:

It has been an honor to serve the people of North Carolina for the past 25 years as a judge and as mayor pro tempore of the Town of Weddington.  I pledge to each of you that I will discharge my duties as a Court of Appeals Judge fairly, impartially, and without favoritism to any person, party, corporation or organization. I will continue to uphold the Constitutions of the United States and North Carolina.

The conservative values learned as an Eagle Scout and as a lifelong Baptist will continue to be my guides.  I am humbled that members of both major political parties felt that I should run without opposition in this fall's general election, and look forward to continuing to serve this great State where my family has resided for 8 generations.
