Candidate Statement:

It has been my privilege to serve the citizens of North Carolina as a trial and appellate judge for nearly twenty-six years.

As Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, I have worked hard to improve the performance of the Court, implementing measures which have eliminated the previous backlog of cases and substantially reduced the time required to complete appellate review of cases by the Court. As Chairman of the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission, I have requested and secured passage of legislation to expand the Commission and provide improved procedures for investigating and resolving complaints of judicial misconduct. I am also actively involved in providing training for trial and appellate judges, as well as lawyers and law students, in the fields of judicial ethics and professionalism.

Even though I am seeking re-election this year without opposition, I would be honored by your vote on November 4.
