|
Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):
I was elected to serve as Cabarrus County's District Attorney in 2002, and re-elected in 2006. I manage an office of eighteen people and I am responsible for every criminal offence charged in the county. Before that, I served as an Assistant District Attorney in this county for seven years, working my way through the ranks. I joined the District Attorney's Office after graduating from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, VA. During Law School, I was recognized for exemplary trial skills and was awarded the highest honor, the Trial Advocacy Award. Prior to attending Regent University, I attended St. Bonaventure University where I graduated with honors and earned a Bachelor's of Business Administration Degree.
In the fourteen years working for the District Attorneys Office, I have prosecuted all classes of crimes from Capital Murder to Driving While Impaired. I have a felony jury trial conviction rate of greater than 95%. My husband and I have enjoyed living in Concord for the past fourteen years. We have an adorable son, Luke who is the light of our lives. Fred is a police officer with the City of Matthews and a reserve deputy with the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department. My family and I are long time members of Concord First Assembly Church. Our extended family also lies in Cabarrus County and I enjoy spending time with all of my nieces and nephews.
I am committed to serving the people of Cabarrus County both inside and outside of the courtroom.
I have served in the following organizations:
Concord/Cabarrus Business and Professional Women's Association, Cabarrus County Chamber of Commerce, First Assembly Christian School Board, SAFE Kids Cabarrus, Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, School Drop-Out Task Prevention Team, Children's Advocacy Center, Concord Rotary Club, and the Senior Citizens Safety Program Coordinator.

| Candidate Statement:
I am passionate about bringing justice to victims and bringing criminals to justice. I know that my experience and commitment to prosecuting criminals, not defending them, is what is necessary to lead the District Attorney's Office. As District Attorney, my office ranks in the top for every category. I have a track record of being tough on crime.
When I was elected in 2002, and re-elected in 2006, I promised to make prosecuting child molesters, habitual felons and drunk drivers a priority. I kept that promise. I have prosecuted numerous child sexual abuse cases and know that they require a special level of expertise. Therefore, I designed the Safe Haven Team, a special team that prosecutes sexual offenses against women and children. The Team has achieved impressive results, victims have been better served, law enforcement has been better trained, and ninety percent (90%) of sexual offenders are convicted. Because of these results, other counties call on us to train their prosecutors. It is imperative that those who cannot protect themselves have an experienced advocate fighting for them and I am that person.
Additionally, I promised that prosecuting drunk drivers and habitual felons would be a priority. I kept that promise as well. According to DOC statistics, Cabarrus County has consistently ranked in the top 10, out of 100 counties for locking up the most drunk drivers and habitual felons. The criminals do not like the results that I have achieved. That is why my opponent, a criminal's attorney, is running against me.
Cabarrus County needs a District Attorney that has experience fighting for the victim, not the criminal. I have committed my fourteen year career in Cabarrus County doing that. It is imperative that victims have their day in court and receive justice. I ask for your vote May 4th.
