Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

A Veteran with over 10 years service in the United States Marine Corps, Michael served as a Marine Security Guard at the American Embassies in Beijing China, Tokyo Japan, and Jakarta Indonesia. Michael also deployed to Bosnia, Somalia, and Haiti as a Counter Intelligence Specialist.

Michael was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps and went to work as a Private Investigator in Raleigh, North Carolina with MJM Investigations, Inc. before pursuing his law degree.

Michael received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Medieval History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Juris Doctorate degree from Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law.

Since graduating from law school, Michael has been practicing law as a Litigation Associate at Shanahan Law Group, PLLC handling civil litigation, criminal defense, and practicing in District Court.

Michael has been a resident of Wake County for 14 years. He is the 7th child in a family of twelve (five girls and seven boys). He is married to Jill and they have two boys, Sullivan and Andrew.

Candidate Statement:

I will bring the same character, commitment, and integrity to the bench that is required to lead Marines. I will apply the law as it is written, and I will apply it fairly and impartially. Service is a privilege. It is not a right nor should it be a career. I am respectfully asking for your vote to allow me to serve as one of your District Court Judges.

Having practiced in District Court and with my experience as a Litigation Associate for Shanahan Law Group, I know what the law requires and I have the necessary experience to make fair and impartial decisions, regardless of the parties.

As a leader of Marines, a Lawyer, one of twelve children, and as a father and husband I have demonstrated that I have the character, integrity, and patience to make well-reasoned and fair decisions as a Judge.
