Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

I was born and reared in Newton, N.C. I graduated from Newton-Conover High School and Wake Forest University's undergraduate school, graduating cum laude with Honors in History. I then entered the Wake Forest University School of Law and received my Juris Doctor degree in 2002. I moved back home to Newton, where I entered the private practice of law with my father, eventfully becoming a partner in the law firm of Mullinax and Mullinax, PLLC.

I experienced an extensive district court trial practice and handled hundreds of cases involving a broad spectrum of North Carolina law. These cases included complex civil and criminal cases, child custody and child support cases, equitable distribution and alimony cases, juvenile abuse, neglect and dependency proceedings, and cases involving domestic violence. In October, 2009, Superior Court Judge Timothy Kincaid swore me in to the office of District Court Judge. Since that time, daily, I have presided over the same types of cases that I dealt with as an attorney; in addition to involuntary commitment proceedings. I hold court in Burke, Caldwell and Catawba counties.

I am a life-long member of Beth-Eden Lutheran Church where I currently serve on the Church Council. I reside in Newton with my wife, Kim, and our two-year-old son, John.

Candidate Statement:

I have had the distinct honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Burke, Caldwell and Catawba Counties in the office of District Court Judge. During my tenure on the bench, I have given my very best efforts each day to help provide the people of our district exactly what they deserve -- a fair and impartial district court. I look forward to continuing to do so in the next four years.

I was born and reared, educated and, along with my wife, am raising my son here in the 25th Judicial District. I have come to know the people of our district quite well. People from our district are decent and hard-working; they rightfully expect a district court that is the same -- decent and hard-working.

A judge is in a unique position to provide such a court; however, doing so requires certain qualifications and experience. A judge is not an administrative official; a judge is in the courtroom each day making decisions that affect the lives of the men, women and children of our district. I am the only candidate in my race with the qualifications of courtroom experience that are required to adequately make such decisions. I thank you for and am humbled by your support.
