Candidate Statement:

From the amazing journey with my family, I have experienced and observed others dealing with difficult personal experiences. This unique perspective allows me to better understand the concerns related to people who have to come to court, from victims of crimes to plaintiffs to children. I believe District Court is the court of the people, and for the most part, the people simply want a fair venue to stand trial, voice their complaints, or address their concerns.

As Judge, I will work to expand the programs we have in place, such as the Drug Treatment Court, Infractions Court, and Judges in School.  I will also look to foster other alternative dispute resolution programs so that our District Court resources are reserved for the cases that most need them. We need to utilize these existing programs, and look for other innovative methods to address our overburdened criminal justice system, yet still protect the public.  I will strive for sentencing that equally punishes a defendant, but provides the necessary rehabilitation to reduce the risk of re-offenders.

If elected I will enthusiastically serve the people of Catawba, Burke, and Caldwell Counties with honesty and integrity.  I will work hard for all of the people.  I will be fair to everyone.  It’s time, elect F. Wesley Sigmon for District Court Judge.
