Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):
I was born in Orlando, Florida. Following high school, I worked with Publix Super Markets for 12 years. My family moved to North Carolina 25 years ago and since then I worked in the insurance and legal professions. My first job in the legal arena was as a paralegal. I completed my undergraduate in Business Administration at Western Carolina University and graduated from law school at Stetson University College of Law.
Upon passing the bar, my former employer made me a partner and I have been a partner at McDowall and Moorefield for seven years. I am a member of the North Carolina State Bar as well as the U.S. District Court (Western District of N.C.), the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. My practice is family law, criminal defense and personal injury law and appear in both District and Superior civil and criminal courts having had numerous jury and non-jury trials. In 2009, I was certified by the N.C. Dispute Resolution Committee as a mediator in Family Financial Settlements.
My husband and I have five children and six grandchildren. Religious and civic activities are important to me. I am an active member of the Biltmore Church of Christ and have been a member of the Altrusa International Club of Asheville, NC since 1988. Through that club I have worked on many issues facing women. During my time at Altrusa I served on the Buncombe County Literacy Council Board of Directors and was an adult literacy tutor for three years. Additionally, I have worked on projects helping The Literacy Council, Life after Cancer, Helpmate, Kids Voting, and Safe Haven.

| Candidate Statement:
I am running run for District Court Judge because I can bring energy to the bench of the 28th Judicial District by contributing a broad base of experience in all courtrooms, civil and criminal, District and Superior, jury and non-jury. My extensive experience in family law matters will help fill a need in our district. My life and legal experience will help me be fair to those appearing before me, while being respectful to litigants, attorneys and courthouse staff.
I remain strong in my convictions and apply the law to the best of my knowledge and understanding when faced with difficult decisions. The law is ever-changing and I strive to stay abreast of changes; I will continue in that pursuit.
