Candidate Statement:

I have a proven record of delivering results in both the private and public sectors. As a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, I pledge to work hard on the issues most important to you.

Our Economy and Creating Jobs:

North Carolina's economic engine is sputtering. Unemployment is at an all-time high and North Carolinians want and need jobs. We must reform how we do business in North Carolina to create an environment that encourages business growth, inspires entrepreneurism and creates jobs. Small businesses are who will lead us out of this recession -- not big government.

I am the only candidate in this race with real world business experience. I understand small business because I am small business.

Taxes and Spending:

With the highest overall tax burden in the southeast it is no wonder we continue to lose jobs to neighboring states and offshore. We must reform North Carolina's tax structure to renew investment in our state, support our business economy and create jobs.

In 2011 North Carolina will face a $3 billion deficit -- one of the highest in the nation. Government spending must be reduced to a sustainable level. We must stop trying to be everything to everyone. It isn't possible and we can't afford it.

Education:

Through a focus on vocational education and career training we will prepare non-college bound students for careers in our local economy and significantly reduce North Carolina's abysmal high school drop our rate. I support increased parental choice and eliminating the cap on charter schools.

Health Care:

All North Carolinians deserve access to the highest quality health care available. I will support legislation that reduces costs and promotes accessibility through increased competition, medical malpractice and insurance reform, and preventative healthcare and education.
