| Candidate Statement:
The Economy
Years of tax and spend government has led North Carolina to have one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. North Carolina is in the top ten of least friendly states for small businesses. It is time that the Legislature unleashed the power of small business by lowering taxes and reducing regulations so the natural forces of the American economy can take over and lead the recovery.
Education
One of the most important roles of state government is to provide the funding for our children's education. We must make sure that money goes to the classroom first and is not wasted on education bureaucracy. The Democrat leadership in the legislature cut over $225 million dollars from the education budget while continuing to fund their pork projects. Classrooms first should be the motto in funding education.
Ethics Reform/Corruption
North Carolina politics have become an embarrassment due to scandals at all levels. I will be an active part of the new leadership that puts an end to "pay to play" politics and makes decisions based on what is best for the people, not the biggest campaign contributor.
Health Care
The Federal health care debate is really about health insurance. We have the finest health care in the world and our excellent medical facilities here in Greenville are a shining example. I believe medical decisions are best made by those directly involved and I will support the State Republican leadership's call for legislation to block federally mandated health care and make sure that medical decisions are made by the patient and their doctor; not the government or insurance companies.
