Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):
I was born on a farm in Union County North Carolina during 1940. I am educated in North Carolina public schools and at NC State College (the old days) having received a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering.
I worked for 25 years in the minerals industry at several locations across the United States. Because of this experience I am familiar with nature and the issues that accompany the use of natural resources.
I opened an engineering and land surveying business in (Little) Washington during 1983. As a part of my business I have become familiar with environmental issues having dealt with all of the regulatory permitting agencies.
I am in my fourth consecutive four year term as Beaufort County Commissioner. I have voted conservatively to reduce taxes and the size of government every year. I have been effective in cutting waste. The only time I voted to increase the size of government was to increase the size of the narcotic squad in the sheriff's department from three to six deputies. I was a lead commissioner in fighting and defeating to OLF in Beaufort and Washington Counties. This project would have used 30,000 acres of prime farm land. I worked to get the storm water regulations changed to help property owners. I opposed the shutting down of PCS Phosphate by the EPA under the Obama Administration.
I oppose the admission of illegal immigrants into the United States because of the high expense to the taxpayer. I support a visa system that allows only the worker to be present and require the worker to return to his homeland. The worker would then be eligible for another visa.
I live with my with and six year old granddaughter. I have three children.

| Candidate Statement:
I have a 14-year Beaufort County Commissioner record of making government smaller, protecting property rights, reducing taxes fighting illegal immigration and making government smaller.
The present system of corruption in Raleigh can only be broken by replacing the leaders and electing those who are willing to limit the power of the Speaker pro Tem. There is no doubt about the severity of this disease when one looks at the amount of money (millions) that is collected by Marc Basnight and the special legislation that is passed by the State Government. The $84,000 illegal money that Senator Basnight paid as a fine is proof enough. My election alone will break the back of corruption in North Carolina.
North Carolina is the highest taxed state in the southeast. Reducing taxes and shrinking the size of government is important.
The single most important thing to be done during the next few years is to find ways to create jobs. This is best done by making our state attractive to industry. Reducing taxes, fees of all kinds and regulations will allow existing business to expand and also the state to attract new industry. I do not advocate a subsidy for anyone. I do advocate tax credits and deductions to help us return to our success as a manufacturing state.
Illegal immigration is a huge expense to tax payers. Every illegal student in our schools is costing about 8,000 dollars per year. State government should use all our powers to reduce the number of illegals to make jobs for our citizens.
I point to Tennessee which does not have an income tax and to South Carolina which taxes and spends less per resident on everything as examples for our future successes.
