Candidate Statement:

I would like to compliment UNC-TV for their effort in bringing the citizens of North Carolina programming of intellectual and moral substance that greatly benefits our communities.

I look forward to representing the 22nd Senatorial District in the North Carolina Senate next year, which includes Moore and Harnett Counties. I am sure many North Carolinians have already sensed that we have a major revenue shortfall in our state treasury. I, for one, believe that supporting our educational institutions is one of our priorities. Because these institutions receive most of the funds that are appropriated for the state budget, we face a challenge. As we look to balance the budget next year, we must be prudent while also providing young people educational opportunities that keep us competitive as a nation.

The Republican Party has not had a majority in the Senate for more than 100 years. I am excited about the possibility of serving in the state senate with a Republican majority. This will be a new experience for me and one that again requires thoughtful discernment. As future generations reflect back upon these times, we should give reason for them to  say, "They did what was best for North Carolina."
