Candidate Statement:

Throughout the 18 years that I have represented residents of the 12th District of North Carolina, I have been a consistent advocate for accessible, affordable health care, a growing economy with good jobs, better education, decent and affordable housing, reliable transportation and justice for all our citizens.  I believe that I have done a good job and a non-partisan evaluation two years ago agreed, rating me the most effective member of North Carolina's congressional delegation.  After years of trying, we finally achieved health care reform in this term of Congress.  I supported this reform and, as a member of the Financial Services Committee, I have worked tirelessly to reform our financial services sector, to get our economy back on track and to prevent the kind of economic meltdown we experienced from ever happening again.

There's much, much more to do and voters can be assured that I will continue to work with my colleagues and people of all political persuasions to get our country back on track.
