Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):
Virginia Foxx is a voice for North Carolina values and a champion of conservative ideas. Virginia believes that we need to get government out of the way by slashing burdensome regulation and taxes. Low taxes and American innovation can help put more Americans back to work.
Virginia has represented North Carolina's Fifth Congressional District since January 2005. She is a vocal leader on the issues of spending restraint, government accountability, tax reform and pro-family issues. She was ranked the most conservative Member of North Carolina's Congressional Delegation by National Journal and has been called one of the "best and brightest" Members of Congress by the American Conservative Union.
Virginia was the first member of her freshman class to introduce and pass a major bill. Her HERO Act bill, which helps our men and women in uniform, was signed by President Bush on Memorial Day 2006. In 2008 she also pushed through legislation that reduces the cost of operating the federal government, and in 2009 she successfully authored legislation to improve on-base housing for service men and women.
Virginia spent the majority of her career educating youth from Northwest North Carolina. She and her husband of more than 40 years also ran a successful small nursery and landscaping business for many years in Watauga County.

There are millions of Americans without work. Nearly 4 million have lost their jobs since the passage of the failed stimulus packaged last year.
Massive government spending is a failed policy that has thrown us ever deeper into debt. The only sector of the economy that has truly benefited has been government. But more big government will not spur real economic growth. We can spur job-creation and economic growth by focusing on reducing government spending, keeping taxes in check and rolling back burdensome regulations that hold down our country’s innovators and entrepreneurs.
