Our Precious Bodies

Hines:
Our bodies are so precious.  They need our care.  Janice J. Beatty, author of the book “From Building Bridges with Multicultural Picture Books,” states that ever child’s body is different but all bodies share the same need to climb, balance, stretch, walk, and move.  The teachers in today’s workshop talk about the importance of caring for their bodies.  Later you will hear the caregivers chant “You need to take care of your body.  It is the only one you will ever get.”

Hines:
Here is my friend J.J. and he loves to fly, he loves to stay fit, and he loves to talk to boys and girls about the whole idea of being fit.  He also talks about colors and shapes and he does lots of different activities.  So J.J. is coming in today to zoom in to help you to get fit as well.  Look at your agenda that you have in front of you just so we are clear on what we are going to do and let’s look at some of our key points that we will address as we are here today.  Okay?  All right.  And hopefully it is pretty clear, today’s agenda.

The key point or the key concept is that bodies change and grow.  Do all of you agree with that?  Does your body look the same way today that it looked two years ago?  No, neither does mine.  Some of us have gotten a little bit larger, some of us have gotten a little bit smaller, some of us have grayer hair, some of us have blacker hair.  Our bodies are also precious and need our care.  Each of us looks different.  Even twins look different.  I have these two beautiful nephews who are twins and although they look, or they were born on the same day, they definitely are not the same, they are totally different, their personalities are different, the way that they move is different, even their learning styles are different.

So today we are going to look and talk about how we want to take care of our bodies.  How many of you are going to get another body that you know of?  You are going to get another body?  Okay, good, I am glad we can all agree that we are not going to get another body.  How many of you are going to get another heart?  Do you think so?  No.  So what do you think that means that we need to do for our heart?  Take care of it.  What we are going to do today is do a few activities around walking, a few activities to talk about keeping our bodies healthy, and some other activities all the way through.

The key lesson that I want you all to know is that we need to take care of our bodies.  So look at the person next to you and say, “You need to take care of your body.”

All:
You need to take care of your body.

Hines:
Thank you.  And look at the person, now turn around, look at somebody different.  It doesn’t matter who and say, “You need to take care of your body.  It is the only one you’ll ever get.”

All:
It is the only one you’ll ever get.

Hines:
Okay, okay.  Now how can we take care of our bodies?  Any answers?
