Jump Rope Contest

Hines:
Watch as several of the teachers show you how they can use the jump ropes.  We will have a jump rope contest.  You can also do this in your classroom or your family child care center.

Hines:
You have a—

F:
Jump rope.

Hines:
Now how many of you love to jump?  Oh good because we are now going to have a jump rope contest for those three people that just raised their hands.  So let’s see, we had five people to raise their hands so you three in the back come on up.  I know and you are looking like how in the world are we going to jump with those little bitty jump ropes?  Let’s see if there is anybody that can jump with that jump rope.  Now—this is what I am going to, we will let you start.  And everybody count.  We will just do it this way, we will count and see how many times she can do it.  And then we will see how many times you can do it.  Is it little?  You have to be in here.  One, two, three, four, okay good, good.  Now let’s see if he can get more than four.  Mr. Lawrence can you do it?

M:
No, no, you can’t do that.  That’s cheating.

Hines:
They are short, they are short.

F:
She did it four times.

Hines:
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, whoa!  Okay.  That was good, that was good.  She was very agile, she was able to do it.  Okay let’s see one more person.  Let’s see if you can do it.  One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, whoa!  Wow, eighteen and you said it was too short and you did eighteen of them?  Okay, ready, set—it might be, I might have given her an adult size.  Ready, set, go.  One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-four, twenty-five, twenty-six, twenty-seven, twenty-eight, twenty-nine, thirty, thirty-one, thirty-two, thirty-thee, thirty-four, thirty-five, thirty-six, thirty-seven, thirty-eight, thirty-nine, forty, forty-one, forty-two, whoa!  Oh my goodness!  That was so good.  Okay anybody else want to?  Come on Mr. Lawrence, you try.  One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, whoa!  Okay.  But if the ropes are too short you can always go out and get you another rope but the whole idea was also to show you that you can use these activities with the children.  So some of your 4-year-olds can actually jump rope.  So these would be great for your children to do.
