Statistics
show that cancer is expected to surpass heart disease as the
leading cause of death in North Carolina and the nation by
2015. What is cancer? And why is it so prevalent? Shannon
Vickery and her guests probe common questions about cancer
and analyze what statistics are telling us about trends of
the disease.
In addition,
panelists discuss how people can decrease their risk of getting
cancer and what kind of screening tests are available. They
also look at how North Carolina has tried to improve on programs
that research and treat cancer.
Finally,
the panel explains the different treatment options for patients
diagnosed with cancer, what side effects they can expect from
those treatments and how treatment impacts the chance of survival.
Finally, panelists discuss the research they are doing personally
or that university centers are doing in general.
