Focus On...Hurricane Isabel Recovery

Hurricane Isabel's visit to the coast left hundreds of homes and businesses damaged or destroyed, while thousands more residents lost electricity, water and phones. Nearly a month later, many of these residents are still picking up the pieces of their lives touched by the storm. North Carolina Now host Shannon Vickery talks with representatives from eastern North Carolina in Focus On...Hurricane Isabel Recovery, to find out what recovery efforts are already underway and which still need to begin.

Live at the historic North Carolina Aquarium at Manteo, Focus On...Hurricane Isabel Recovery combines profiles of the coast's experience with Hurricane Isabel and the stories of approximately 20 coastal residents who will meet that night to share how the hurricane has affected their lives. Vickery will also lead these participants in discussions about what aid they received through federal and state resources, what kinds of aid are available, rebuilding plans for coastal development and lessons hurricanes have taught about preparing for major storms and responding to victims.

In addition, Legislative Week in Review correspondent Rebecca Lindstrom and North Carolina Now correspondent Chip Muller show the storm's destruction, coastal residents' efforts to survive, efforts by Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide aid and the meaning of total recovery--including the cost.
