What
You'll need:
Pine
Straw (make sure it's dry)
Grass clippings
Leaves (wet or dry)
Directions:
1.
Section off a small area about the size of a sandbox
in your backyard. Maybe put some large branches around
it so you'll know where it is and no one else will
step in it.
2.
Once you've boxed off your area, put down the pine
straw.
3.
Put the grass clippings on top of the pine straw.
4.
Put the leaves on the top.
5.
If the grass clippings and leaves are dry, splash
some water on the top of them.
6.
You'll need to mix the pile every 3 or 4 days
so the air can get into the middle of it, and you'll
add water to it each time you do this. It takes about
1-4 months to compost.
On
top of the pile every day, add some leftover food, such
as rice, vegetables, coffee grounds, or egg shells.
NOTE: Don't put meat, grease or bones on the pile as
they will attract animals.
WHAT
YOU CANNOT PUT ON THE COMPOST PILE
Pet
waste
Meat scraps, bones, or grease
