Charles "Terry" Zug is the author of Turners and Burners: The Folk Potters of North Carolina, which has become the primary reference book about pottery in North Carolina. Originally from Pennsylvania, Zug moved to North Carolina in 1968 and learned to make some pottery himself while researching for his book. Today he is a retired professor from the English department who still teaches classes in folklore at UNC-Chapel Hill.
