CREATING FRINGE HANDLES: 1. Cut 30 35, 10” pieces of leather. 2. Fold each piece in half, slip looped end around handle, pulling open ends through looped end tightly. Repeat until handle is completely covered.
APPLYING BAMBOO TRIM: 1. Using a small wood saw, cut 4 pieces of bamboo to fit the length of the trunk, and 4 pieces to fit the width. 2. Cut 20, 10” pieces of leather. 3. Drill a total of 40 holes (20 sets) through the top and sides of the trunk, as follows: Top 3 sets of holes evenly spaced along the length, and 2 sets of holes across the width bottom a few inches up from the bottom (we suggest just above the metal corner piece (see photo), drill 3 sets of holes along the length and 2 sets of holes across the width. 4. Push one end of the leather strip through the first set hole at one end of the trunk, place bamboo in position along the length. Loop the other end of leather around the bamboo and push through the other hole. Tie the leather together on the inside of the trunk, securing the bamboo in place. Repeat for each hole in the top and bottom of the trunk, until the bamboo trim is complete.
FINISHING 1. Select a flat or satin water based urethane from your local craft store or home center. 2. Using an all-purpose paintbrush brush on one light coat over PaperIllusion® and let dry (about 1 hour) 3. Apply 1 - 2 heavier coats, allowing sufficient drying time in between each. Be sure to apply the urethane to the edges of the piece and to assure that the paper is flat. 4. After coat 3, lightly sand the surface to remove any raised edges of the paper. Tack clean and apply the 4th light coat. Enjoy your new decorated furniture conversation piece!
