Lap Quilting with Georgia Bonesteel
Host | Underwriters | Resources
As creator and host of Lap Quilting, produced by UNC-TV, Georgia Bonesteel has shared her enthusiasm and love of quilting through 10 series of the program. Since 1979, the Lap Quilting series, comprised of thirteen 30-minute programs each season, has been broadcast on more than 200 networks throughout the country. Each Lap Quilting season has drawn audiences from across the globe to Georgia's lifetime of experience as a teacher, traveler, author and quilting judge.
Georgia, who lives at the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Flat Rock, NC, has also shared her expertise through the Spinning Spools pattern club. She finds another opportunity to teach during week-long retreats at Freedom Escape Lodge in Weaverville, NC and the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch in Gallatin Gateway, MT. "Quiltmaking today knows no boundaries," Georgia says, "It crosses cultures, languages and oceans in the hands of creative people."
Using her original quilting creations as instructional tools and exhibit items, Georgia has published a number of books that serve as companion pieces to her television series. Her quilts appear in six books, Lap Quilting (no longer in print), More Lap Quilting, New Ideas for Lap Quilting, Easy Does It Quilts, Patchwork Potpourri and her newest book, Lap Quilting Lives. Her books are available online at www.georgiabonesteel.com.
Georgia recently served as president of the International Quilt Association. This prominent non-profit organization, dedicated to preserving quilts and the art of quilting around the world, strives for public recognition for quilting and quilts as an art form. In addition, the IQA encourages the advancement of the art through continuing education services for members, public education activities and professional and artisan development programs.
