The Future
Biodiversity
The quest to maintain a high quality of life throughout the State, combined with much better overall management of natural and working landscapes, will drive a more coordinated approach to protecting biodiversity on a statewide basis. A strong coalition of state and local government departments, land trusts, and conservation nongovernment organizations will be working closely together to ensure that the most important of our natural areas and unique species are protected for current recreational and spiritual renewal and for future human need. Wilderness areas and key sites of special biological significance will be interconnected through and between working (farm and forest) landscapes in order to maintain genetic corridors. Many other factors, such as more contained development, vibrant sustainable farming and forestry industries and clean air and water will play into the biodiversity equation, all working together.
