North Carolina's Mountain Treasures

North Carolina's Mountain TreasuresOn the western horizon of North Carolina are ancient sentinels. The oldest mountains on the North American continent, they are among the oldest mountains in the world. Once fiery cauldrons, the North Carolina mountains are now gentle giants. Worn by time, wind and water they appear as soft as watercolor brushstrokes.

Life is abundant in these mountains. More varieties of trees and plants can be found here than in all of Europe. Under the hardwoods and hemlocks black bears roam, cougars pad over mossy galax, and native trout swim in pristine streams. Nurturing, yet awe-inspiring, these mountains are well-springs of beauty and recreation. Their cool mountain forests and trails beckon the visitor.
