In 1964, Nancy Peacock was introduced to creative writing by her fourth-grade teacher. At last encouraged to use her imagination, Peacock began writing stories as a hobby. As a part of a term paper for an English class, she wrote a novel (it received a B+). After graduating from high school, Peacock shunned college and instead entered the workforce. Over the years she has worked as a waitress, carpenter, locksmith, bartender, cocktail waitress, retail clerk, and self-employed housecleaner, to name only a few.
Peacock's first novel, Life Without Water, was published in 1996 and was chosen as a New York Times Notable Book. A second novel, Home Across the Road, soon followed. Her most recent work, A Broom of One's Own: Words on Writing, Housecleaning, and Life is about the dual life she lived as a critically acclaimed author while supporting herself working as a housecleaner. She has just completed her third novel, and begun work on her fourth.
Currently a writing teacher, she lives with her husband and a resident box turtle named Caroline in Chatham County, North Carolina.
