The Series

D.G. MartinUNC-TV’s North Carolina Bookwatch is the state’s premier literary series, bringing the Tar Heel State’s best and brightest Southern writers to the small screen. In every illuminating interview, host D.G. Martin sheds light on authors’ lives, books and the state’s indelible imprint on their works.

D.G. Martin has hosted North Carolina Bookwatch since the series’ third season in 1999. A Yale Law School graduate and former Green Beret, Martin has been involved with public service, and politics throughout his life, including stints as interim Vice Chancellor for Development and University Affairs at both UNC-Pembroke and North Carolina Central University, work as the Carolinas Director of the Trust for Public Land, and a hard-fought 1998 campaign for the Democratic nomination to the U.S. Senate against John Edwards.

Martin has also remained dedicated to many civic, charitable and professional activities at the local, state, and national levels, with leadership roles at Davidson College, the YMCA, United Way, the National Conference of Christians and Jews, and the North Carolina Bar Association. Most recently, the Davidson, NC, native enjoys sharing information and ideas with North Carolinians across the state in his weekly newspaper column, “One on One,” and as a frequent contributor to Our State magazine. Martin has also participated in other UNC-TV productions including segments of the popular Our State series (Episode 109:Peaches and Cream; and Episode 205:Twin's Garden) and the intriguing documentary The Search for Princess Charlotte. In addition to his work in television and print, Martin is the host of “Who’s Talking,” a daily interview program on WCHL-1360, a Chapel Hill, NC, radio station.

Now in its ninth season, North Carolina Bookwatch continues to benefit from the diverse experiences of the series’ insightful and energetic host.
