Rules For Submission
Nearly two decades after its 1987 premiere, the groundbreaking Civil Rights series Eyes on the Prize comes to UNC-TV from American Experience in three, two-hour episodes airing on consecutive Mondays, October 2-16, at 9 PM.
UNC-TV is proud to participate in the Eyes on the Prize Oral History Project, allowing North Carolina’s citizens, young and old, to showcase oral histories capturing the Civil Rights movement.
If you would like to submit an oral history to UNC-TV’s Eyes on the Prize Oral History Project, including any writings, audio, video and photographs, you must adhere to the following rules:
Written Submissions
Length: Written submissions (transcribed interviews, personal stories & accounts, poetry, etc.) should not exceed 1000 words. If your written submission is lengthier than 1000 words, please select and submit a portion of the writing that highlights the story told by you or your subject—keeping in mind the emphasis of your particular submission.
Format: Written submissions(transcripts, stories, accounts, etc.) must be submitted electronically. Written submissions may be sent three ways: (1) as an e-mail attachment, e-mailed to svolstad@unctv.org; (2) on a CD; or (3) via an online form, available at www.unctv.org/nceyes.
E-mails and CDs containing written submissions should also include participant contact information so that they may be matched with mailed submission forms and releases.
Video, Audio & Photo Submissions
Length: Video and audio submissions should not exceed 10 minutes. Similar to written submissions, longer video and audio pieces should be edited to reveal highlights of the story told by you or your subject—also keeping in mind the emphasis of your submission.
Written, video and audio submissions exceeding specified lengths will not be used.
There are no limitations on photo and image submissions. Participants are encouraged to submit multiple photos (with a corresponding document including captions and dates), even entire photo journals, in order to establish a particular civil rights milestone, event, or other experience. When submitting multiple digitized photos, participants are required to number each photo filename and its corresponding caption and date, so that the photos can be accurately displayed in their proper chronological order.
Format: Photo & image, audio and video Submissions must be submitted on a CD or DVD, and must adhere to the following formats:
- Scanned Photo/Images Format: JPEG, GIF, PNG; (As mentioned, photos/images should also be numbered and contain a corresponding caption and date);
- Audio Formats: WAV, MP3, AIFF, WMA, QuickTime, REAL AUDIO;
