Lumbee Recognition
Rob Holliday updates us on the Lumbee Tribe's efforts for federal recognition for more than a century. The status would provide money for housing, education, health care and economic development. The Lumbee tribe is the largest tribe east of the Mississippi. A majority of its 55,000 members live in Robeson and surrounding counties in North Carolina.

Mr. Reese will discuss the purpose of the East Durham Children's Initiative, designed to create a pipeline for children in East Durham from birth to college or career by providing support for families and children.  The goal of the initiative is that every child finishes high school and is college or career ready.  The program is modeled after the successful Harlem Children's Zone.
