Correspondents Jeff Smith began working for UNC-TV as a photojournalist and producer in 2003 and joined the North Carolina Now staff in March 2007. Jeff has produced multiple series and specials for UNC-TV including an inside look at Breast Cancer in one North Carolina family, China’s science and technology education compared to our state, and the North Carolina Weekend series, “The Weekend Golfer.” Jeff is a native North Carolinian. He was born in Greensboro and has lived in many parts of the state while growing up and as an adult. He met his wife, Amy in High Point and they have been married since 2001. They now live in Apex with their two dogs. Jeff brings many years of TV experience to UNC-TV. He began studying and working in TV in Raleigh in 1990. He has also worked at stations in Wilmington, High Point, Winston Salem, Richmond, VA, and Fort Myers, FL. While at those stations, Jeff did photojournalism, news and sports reporting and anchoring. He earned an Associated Press award for best Sports Feature in 1999 while working at WGHP. Jeff studied Radio and Television Production at Campbell University and Central Carolina Community College. Besides TV, Jeff’s true love is playing sports. While he played baseball growing up, his adult passion is golf.
