UNC-TV sees economic development as a major issue facing North Carolina as the state’s economy continues to transition from a heavy manufacturing-based economy to a knowledge-based economy. UNC-TV has developed plans to give this issue significant attention over the coming months. UNC-TV will focus its efforts around the economic development report the University of North Carolina and the North Carolina Community College System are creating to fulfill the legislative mandate of House Bill 1264. This report, which will be released later this spring, is expected to outline how the state’s economy is changing and how the state’s higher education institutions can help prepare North Carolinians for the new economies of today and tomorrow. To inform and educate UNC-TV viewers about the overall issue of economic development and the upcoming report by UNC and the Community College System, UNC-TV will provide a on-going series of special feature interviews.
