in Mount Airy, North Carolina, Andrew Samuel Griffith has
been a writer, comedian, producer, and Grammy-winning musician.
But Andy Griffith, best known as a TV icon for his CBS series
"The Andy Griffith Show" and "Matlock",
is one of our state's most famous North Carolina People. Inducted
into the TV Hall of Fame by the Academy of Television Arts
and Sciences in 1992, Griffith discussed his motivation for
acting with Bill Friday: "Some people, and I'm one of
them, are driven to do this. Somewhere in my spirit, somewhere
in my inside I was driven to do this."
