"I've always felt that
words count, even in a picture medium."
Charles
Kuralt was a North Carolina farm boy who went on to become
one of America's most admired television journalists. Chronicling
everyday life in the "On the Road" television segments that
appeared for some 13 years during the "CBS Evening News,"
Kuralt traveled in a motor home roughly 80,000 miles throughout
the 50 states, roaming off the beaten path in search of stories
that otherwise might have gone unreported. Kuralt was a writer,
reporter, anchor, editor, storyteller, and a true gentleman,
whose life made him a spokesperson for the Tar Heel State.
