Art of Community
(NARRATIVE – 19 minutes, 26 seconds)
Carolyn Leith and Andrea DeGette 

A look at the controversy surrounding a gun sculpture proposed for the town of Chapel Hill, NC, and how the community is taking an artistic approach to addressing its problems of gun violence.  Other topics raised in the piece include the development of a gun sculpture project, community awareness and support of the artist, and the role of public art in the community.

Filmmaker Profiles: CAROLYN LEITH & ANDREA DEGETTE
Carolyn Leith (producer) is an arts administrator in Chapel Hill who identified a need delve behind the scenes of the process of public art making.  In her capacity in the Cultural Services Program at Duke University Center, Carolyn has procured videos make by independent producers for an arts & humanities channel on the hospital closed  circuit TV system. Andrea DeGette (director) graduated from NY University’s Tisch School of the Arts.  She has written, directed and produced short films which have been widely screened at art venues, and has worked as an art director on feature-length films including Sleepwalk, a film shot by noted cult director Jim Jarmusch.
