"Courtesy Call"

(Experimental/Narrative – 5 minutes)

What do a phone book, a can of Tab soda and eternal life have in common? They’re all in a day’s work for the protagonist of this quirky short film from Durham’s Jim Haverkamp. Shot in glorious black and white super-8 in the filmmaker’s kitchen, Stuart Hoyle portrays the sincere "courtesy caller" bent on reaching out and touching as many people as possible —with decidedly mixed results.

Jim Haverkamp is an Iowa native who fled the landlocked Midwest for North Carolina a few years ago. He currently works for the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and organizes Flicker, the local super-8 film festival.
